Mentoring for Women in STEM in London

London is one of the world's great STEM cities. You have DeepMind and Google right here. You have world leading fintech, biotech, and AI research. You have Imperial College, UCL, and the Francis Crick Institute. For women in STEM, the opportunities are incredible.

But here is what we hear from women across London. It can still feel lonely. You go to work, you do your job, but you don't have anyone to talk to about the bigger questions. How do I get promoted? Should I start my own company? How do I deal with a difficult boss? Who do I ask when I am not sure what to do next?

That is where MakePossible comes in. We are a mentoring network for women in STEM, built by women in STEM. And we have a growing community right here in London. Our members work at the big tech companies, lead research teams at universities, run startups, and manage projects in engineering and finance. They have faced the same challenges you are facing. And they want to help.

Maybe you are a junior developer at a startup in Shoreditch. You love the work but you are not sure how to grow. Your company is small and there is no senior woman to learn from. A mentor from a larger company can show you how things work elsewhere. What skills you need to build. How to prepare for your next role. That kind of guidance is invaluable.

Or maybe you are a researcher in a lab. You love the science but you are thinking about moving into industry. You are not sure how to make the transition. A mentor who has made that exact move can walk you through it. The good parts, the hard parts, and everything in between. That helps you make a decision with your eyes open.

We also know that London is a city of people from everywhere. More than a third of Londoners were born outside the UK. If you are an immigrant woman in STEM, you face extra hurdles. Different workplace culture. Different expectations. A network that does not exist yet. Our community has mentors who have navigated all of that. They understand. And they can help.

For those of you who have been in your careers for a while. You have experience. You have wisdom. You have a network. Becoming a mentor is a way to give back. And many of our mentors say it helps them too. Seeing your mentee succeed is incredibly rewarding. And you often learn something new in the process.

Getting started with MakePossible is easy. You join the community. You fill out your profile. You tell us what you need. Then we help match you with a mentor who fits. You can meet for coffee near the South Bank, grab a drink in Soho, or connect over Zoom. Whatever works for you.

Not ready to ask for a mentor yet? That is fine. Come to our events. Join a mentoring circle. Just be in the room with other women who get it. You will learn more than you expect.

Here is what we want you to know. You do not have to do this alone. There are women in London right now who want to help you succeed. They have been where you are. They have the connections. They have the advice. And they are waiting to meet you.

Join MakePossible today. Find your mentor. Grow your career. And when you are ready, become a mentor for someone else. That is how we build a stronger STEM community in London. One conversation at a time.
