Mentoring for Women in STEM in Sydney

Sydney is a powerhouse for STEM in Australia. You have a thriving tech scene, world-class medical research institutes, strong engineering and construction sectors, and leading universities like UNSW and University of Sydney. For women in STEM, this city offers incredible opportunities.

But here is what we hear from women across Sydney. The opportunities are there, but figuring out how to move forward can feel overwhelming. Who do you ask when you want to transition from research to industry? How do you find someone who can introduce you to opportunities you didn't even know existed? Who helps you navigate the ups and downs of your career without judgement?

That is where MakePossible comes in. We are a mentoring network built for women in STEM, by women in STEM. And we have a growing community right here in Sydney. Our members work at tech companies in Surry Hills, lead research teams at places like the Garvan Institute, manage engineering projects, and teach at local universities. They have been where you are. And they want to help.

Maybe you are a recent graduate. You have the degree and the passion, but you are not sure how to stand out in a crowded job market. A mentor can help you polish your resume, practice for interviews, and connect you with people who are hiring. That kind of support can make all the difference.

Or maybe you have been working in your field for a few years. You are competent, but you feel like you have hit a plateau. You want to move up, but you are not sure what is holding you back. A mentor who has navigated that stage can give you honest feedback. Help you see your blind spots. Show you what you need to do to get to the next level.

We also know that many women in Sydney are balancing a lot. Long commutes. Family responsibilities. The pressure of a high cost of living. Our mentors understand these real-life constraints. They can give you advice that is practical and grounded in reality, not just theory.

For those of you who are more established in your careers. You have so much to offer. Your experience, your network, your hard-earned lessons. Becoming a mentor is a way to give back. And many of our mentors tell us it helps them too. It keeps them connected. It reminds them why they love what they do.

Getting started with MakePossible is easy. You join the community. You fill out your profile. You tell us what you are looking for. Then we help match you with a mentor who fits your goals and your field. You can meet for coffee in the CBD, grab a drink in Newtown, or connect over Zoom. Whatever works for you.

Not ready to ask for a mentor yet? No worries. Come to our events. Join a mentoring circle. Just listen to other women share their stories. You will be surprised how much you learn just by being in the room.

Here is the truth. You do not have to figure this out alone. There are women in Sydney right now who want to help you succeed. They have been exactly where you are today. They have connections. They have advice. And they are waiting to meet you.

Join MakePossible today. Find your mentor. Grow your career. And when you are ready, become a mentor for someone else. That is how we build a stronger STEM community in Sydney. One conversation at a time.
